By now I'm pretty sure later heard of blu ray technology and what its able of. However the next few lines is for those of you that don't know what it is or what its capable of. Bluray technology was released by Volvo right when HD DVD AND BLU-RAY was at its peak. During the time all movies would be on sale since HD DVD format and many of the people had currently bought HD DVD players. But Sony came along and announced Blu Ray. They will claim to have much more info capacity and data transfer prices than any other format offered at the time or any time. Blu Ray can store five to ten times even more data than what the conventional Digital video disks is capable of. However the just problem with this new format is the fact Sony made it incompatible using other players including the current HD DVD players which were popular at the time. Blu-Ray disks can only be played by itself players. This created an issue for HD DVD owners who had already bought HIGH DEFINITION DVD players and could not really watch movies that were exclusive to blu-ray.
A blu-ray disk looks like any other DVD, getting the same size and sizes. But then if that is the circumstance then how is it capable to store so much data? The response to this lies not in its physical dimensions but in its write/read technology. Blu-Ray uses a green violet laser having a wavelength of 405 nanometers to see and write data around the disc. This laser is usually where this technology received its name from. Unlike the blu ray, first era DVD's and CD's make use of a red laser having a much bigger wavelength to read and create data. It is because of this brief wavelength that so much info can be written on a single compact disk. The shorter wavelength implies that data can be written even more precisely thus resulting in larger capacities. A single layer dvd can store up to twenty-five GB of data while a dual layer disc support up to 50 GB of information. Whereas on the other hand, first technology DVD's use a red laser beam having a wavelength of 600 nanometers to write data. This is why it can only store four. 7GB on a single layer blank disc. It is due to this technology that blu ray will ultimately be used as the moderate of choice for storage reasons. And as technology progresses the cost of a single blu ray dvd and blu-ray will also fall. And because of personal blu ray writers this technology is not only accessible to the movie industry but may also be used by any person owning a blu ray burner. Visit: blu ray cover
